EMAILS FROM PAST CLIENTS:

"I got a job!"

The following list contains the results of clients I have worked with in the past. I have included emails I received from them, emails that express what most students' desire - a good job in their field of choice. Please note that we have worked with many more career fields than the ones listed here. The greatest satisfaction comes when students obtain a paid job in their field. I have asked some past participantfor permission to share some of their comments:

MARKETING:

Before: Since graduating university, she worked at entry level retail positions.
After: Associate Buyer, with a leading Canadian Outdoor Sporting Goods Retailer

Since I finished my internship things have been moving very fast. In fact, the office is relocating and I've been offered a purchasing analyst position over there. It's a great opportunity for me. I never would have imagined such quick advancement in only a few months and I have to thank you two for it all. If it wasn't for the support and encouragement I received in the program and guidance that you both offered me, I probably would have given up on my dream of being a buyer. After all, it was a long shot. Participating in the program, however, truly encouraged me to put my 'all' into it and gave me the tools to exploit that energy. The workshops, the exercises, the projects, they all helped me to get to another level. When I left, I was a little scared, but I also had a new found confidence I didn't possess when arrived. I was now armed with interviewing skills, public speaking and listening skills, goal setting and conflict resolution abilities, networking skills and a better understanding of how to access key information when researching an industry or career. Most importantly though, it felt really good to achieve my goal of finding an associate buying position for my internship. Thank you both again for helping me to realize this goal - I truly appreciate it. Keep in touch and take care.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING:

Before: Since graduating university, unemployed, 9 months.
After: Junior Environmental Engineer, top Environmental Engineering Company in Canada

On Tuesday (yesterday) they offered me full-time employment! Then, later in the afternoon, the lady from the funding program e-mailed to say that we've been approved for funding! So everything's worked out perfectly. I'll be starting paid employment on the Monday after the internship is done (Dec. 11th). Woohoo!! Hope to talk to you guys soon. Take Care!

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER:

Before: Since graduating university, unemployed 3 months
After: Hired, full time as a Junior Software Developer, with a leading Vancouver Software Development Firm.

Hi there! I can't believe what happened today. I was hired by my work placement employee as of today. Can you believe that? Today, he emailed me to come to the office immediately. I went there and was offered a paid Job and he gave me a $$$ bonus. I'm so overwhelmed from what I've heard! I can't believe it! To you guys follow your dream and do extra effort to show the company that you are valuable to them. I showed them that I have an interest in what I do by giving extra effort to know the skills useful to the company and I never complain. Good Luck everyone!

CHEMICAL ENGINEER:

Before: Since graduating university, unemployed for 6 months
After: Hired, as a Chemical Engineer, with a leading Pulp and Paper Chemical Supply Firm:

I just ended my work placement with (confidential) because I have accepted a position with (confidential) in the mechanical department. Looks like I'm going to be a design engineer for the next 6 months. Anyways.. don't give up guys.. never on earth that did I think a company like that would hire someone like me.. but they did!!! :-) So, keep the faith.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

Before: Since Graduating SFU, Underemployed in Office Administration
After: Hired, as a Human Resources Specialist with a large Telecom Company:

Things with me are great. I got an actual job offer from (confidential) and as of this Monday I am an actual employee of the company. As we were told, "There are four goals to the program - and one of them is paid employment". So things are good. I am enjoying my job, my title is "Human Resources Specialist". Mostly I deal with the international side of HR as the company has operations in different countries in the world. The hours are great. The company is so flexible I can come in at 7:30 and leave at 3:30 if I want. Lots has happened to me over the past week and I am so happy that it is all finally over and I can finally get a paycheck after all this hard work.

RECREATION:

Before: Infrequent work as a personal trainer
After: Hired, as a Recreation Worker with a City Parks Department:

I have finally got the job I've been working for (confidential). At the Community Centre, where I co-ordinated birthday parties, I am now the Community Services Programmer for a 1-year maternity leave! Yay! I am responsible for all outdoor rec, visual and performing arts, tourism and marketing, and, of course birthdays. Anyway, I'm very excited and just wanted to share with you, as you are the reason I made this connection last year. Thank you!
